Education is perhaps the most important factor that builds a man or woman’s personality and helps them create a place of their own in the society. In the words of Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world.” Every single person on this Earth has the right to receive the best education but this does not actually happen in the real world. Not every country has the best education system and not every citizen gets the opportunity to attend school.

If we consider the many deciding factors like literacy rate, school enrollment, the structure of the system and many other factors, the country that tops the list in terms of Educational System is South Korea. South Korea has been the frontrunner for imparting the best education among its citizen for some years now. A few years back, Finland used to be the leader in this department but with time, many South Asian countries have beaten it. The South Korean Educational system tops among all the countries in terms of smartness, accountability, outcomes, goals as well as engagement. The country’s government is very dedicated towards the goal of providing the best education to its citizen and as a result of this dedication; the children start doing homework at a very young age and sometimes even go to schools seven days a week.

What makes South Korea the best country in terms of education?

There are five levels of education in South Korea- preschool, primary, secondary, higher and continuing education. Preschool is for children between the age of three to six and it not compulsory. Primary school is compulsory and is completely free of cost for the children between the age of six and twelve. Secondary education is divided into two stages- three years in middle school and the second one, three years in high school. After completing high school, around 70% students go on to pursue higher education in colleges. Education is a very serious issue in South Korea and attaining academic success is often regarded as the first step to social mobility. This belief has led to a huge encouragement among all students to study hard and make a name of their own.

The government of South Korea has a budget of around $11,300,000,000. This huge investment in the department of education has led to a high literacy rate of almost 100%. Interestingly, South Koreans are credited to be very fluent in English. They are even better than the French people at speaking English. There is a strong emphasis on learning English and thus, a large number of teachers are native TEFL. Japan follows South Korea very closely in terms of ranking. The country has been investing hugely in children’s education and it is known for its technology-based educational system. It won’t be long before South Korea and Japan tie with each other at the highest position for the country with the best educational system.
